Feedback Unit 2: Elderly Female and Physical and Physiological Body
Thank you for your contribution to this clear and informative educational website submission. I was particularly stricken by your group’s use of short yet information-packed visuals, videos, and infographics alike. Starting out with “Understanding the Normal Aging Process” was an excellent way to introduce your topic. This set the stage for a baseline upon which to compare later pathology and gender differences in health.
While the written content was concise and informative, may I
suggest a larger font? The amount of visual information on these educational websites
can be hard on the eyes, and a larger font could improve the absorption of the
information. I am almost 59 years old and wear reading glasses, so I feel this
would greatly assist the target audience. The content talks about
statements of health differences between genders but sometimes omits how these differences
affect women. More clarification here may be helpful. For example, the site
talks about “a higher percentage of body fat and may experience alterations in
fat distribution” and “women produce fewer essential substances needed for
joint health.” I think I could understand the implications better if they were
explained a little in the same section of the paragraph. The believe later
YouTube TED Talk video rescued this issue. There are also several declarative
statements made on gender health differences that beg supportive references
immediately after, such as when discussing “lipid profiles and an increased
risk of cardiovascular diseases” under the physical section.
Your group did an excellent job describing the physiological
and physical aspects of female aging as they relate to the older female adult.
The information is sectioned with suitable headings and provides extensive
description and discussion around hormonal and other changes in menopausal
women. In that peri-menopausal states are a recent area of study, I would not
expect an extensive discussion on such on your website; however, a mention might
be indicated. As well I would suggest more “Late Adulthood” specific content as
sometimes I forget that this was the topic at hand with a generic infographic
and discussion around pregnancy and related complications. I spotted a few
punctuation and reference citation mishaps, but nothing that cannot be quickly
corrected. I really liked the infographic from Hagg & Jylhava, (2021) with its
gender comparison format. This really expanded my knowledge on the subject.
To conclude, I enjoyed your group’s website submission thus
far. It provides easily absorbed sound bites of information and is broken up
well with visuals that grab the attention and maintain interest. Well done!
