Feedback unit 6: CAM

Feedback unit 6: CAM   Your topic was really interesting to me. I currently work with older adults who live with chronic pain so this topic is really relevant to me. I loved your infographic that provided color coded information. The videos were also clear and very informative. Your website section contained all of the elements required and was easy to follow. The headings and subheadings are clearly defined and the writing style is clear. As I read through the website section, I was not able to find any grammatical issues. It was interesting to learn more about Pilates and how it can be beneficial for older adults. For some reason, I always thought Pilates was a very complicated form of exercise that was probably going to be catered to younger adult women. However, after reading your website section, I have learned that it is a safe and effective intervention for older women who do have pain. Even women with disabilities can participate as this form of exercise can be modif...

Week 6 Feedback

Marilyn, I thoroughly enjoyed the information that your group provided on this week’s webpage. I have a personal connection to your group’s choice of issue and complementary treatment, because although not an elder, I began my Pilates journey a few months ago due to a diagnosis of degenerative arthritis in my spine, hips, and knees. I can attest to the benefit that Pilates has had on my joints, so I really enjoyed reading about how this is a typical solution for the elderly ones who experience similar difficulties as I am. I like how your group provided resources to support the topic and they all seemed to be a great match in supporting this claim that Pilates is a good CAM. Even though there are great benefits to Pilates, it was good to see the disadvantages were listed as well, especially from my professional lens since I was thinking of obtaining my Pilates certification so that I could incorporate it into my private practice. So, it was interesting to see how evidence-bas...

UNit 6: CAM for chronic pain

iI Marilyn ,   I reviewed the Weebly page on CAM in older adults that you and your group completed this last week,  I was very impressed by your choice of pilates as a CAM for pain in older adults. It was an excellent choice, as it is a mode that is often overshadowed by yoga, which is so popular in currently. Yoga seems to occupy more media space than modalities like Pilates and Tai Chi which are equal ly effective but less intimidating for older adults. I remember an older gentlemen complaining at my gym because there were two pilates classes a week compared to 10 of yoga per day! In  older women the core and general muscle mass takes quite a beating post menopause and given comorbidities like osteoporosis other exercise modalities may be less recommended. Pilates helps to build muscle and focuses on core recruitment as its central idea. Core muscle recruitment involves diaphragm, abdominal core musculature and pelvic floor muscles and can have significa...

Feedback Unit 6:

I decided to review the group that created the complementary website for adulthood. I agree that anxiety is such a significant disorder that many older women experience. For this reason, healthcare providers must address this topic often and with caution when speaking to their patients. I think this group did an excellent job with this website; there are so many interesting and important points that were made. For example, the reality is that “women are more likely to suffer from a generalized anxiety disorder than men”. I also liked that they mentioned that untreated anxiety may affect a growing fetus or newborn; it just speaks to how powerful and impactful one’s emotions may be. I think aromatherapy is a great idea to reduce anxiety; however, I do agree that there may be concerns about toxicity when overused. I believe it is not uncommon to complete aromatherapy at night before going to sleep, due to the risk of toxicity, this may make me a little nervous about participating in this ...

Feedback Unit 5

I decided to review Adulthood Conventional Medicine. This group did an excellent job of providing thorough information on cardiovascular diseases in adult women. I was very surprised to read about the ‘special risk factors’ for adult women. One with average information would not realize the connection between hormonal changes in different phases of women’s lives and cardiac distress. I also liked that for symptoms, this group decided to differentiate between males and females. I think the symptoms are so general that may be a reason why cardiovascular diseases go undetected until it is too late. I do think the website is a little heavy with the wording; some of the information could be condensed or shortened into smaller paragraphs. I really enjoyed the infographics; all four of them were very informative and relevant to the website’s topic. I really liked and enjoyed the third video posted; it was short, concise, and easy to follow and understand. I think some changes could be done to...

Feedback Unit 5: Conventional medicine

Hi Marilyn! Thank you and your group for the information presented on the website page regarding late adulthood/elderly conventional medicine.  The website page design just keeps getting better and better.  I love how the design flows.  It's clean, inviting and easy to follow for the reader.  The graphics are specific to the topic, informative and are appropriate per section.  Discussion of female urinary tract infection (UTI) is  thorough, relevant, and offers up-to-date intervention information that will be helpful to medical professionals as well as the respective population.  I learned more about complex UTI symptoms in the elderly population.  This deep-dive adds valuable knowledge for medical professionals I feel the both the infographics and video media used in this section is relevant to the topic.  Placement of media is, again, well thought out.  Headings and subheadings are bolded, easily visible and well placed and keeping wit...

unit 4 feedback (unit 3)

Hi Marilyn! I found you and your groups page very informative. I had a little difficulty reading your first image (food safety), however, after zooming in I was able to do so; I would of probably placed that specific image underneath your subsection "Dietary Guidelines."The transition from your protective factors section to dietary guidelines was a little unclear since there was a nutrition video in the protective factors section.  The rest of the videos and pictures that were uploaded were easy to follow and understand. Some feedback would be to be consistent with having the full name of an acronym in parenthesis, for example, to be reader friendly for those with no or little healthcare background might not know what "SIDS" is. I did not come across any spelling errors on your page. Your writing was clear and concise, and easy to follow;  All the essential elements that were required for your page was presented. The videos and images assist with learning the infor...
